It would be an understatement to suggest that building a freestanding religious chapel on campus has been an elusive dream for most of Xavier University of Louisiana’s (XULA) history. That dream is now a reality—one that reportedly exceeds original expectations. Renowned architect Cesar Pelli of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects in New Haven, Conn., designed and constructed the project, and joined the Archbishop of New Orleans and XULA’s president in officially dedicating the St. Katherine Drexel Chapel in New Orleans on Oct. 6, 2012.
